Operator Please- The Coolest Kids I Know

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Rewind to about a year ago when I first met a group of teens from Gold Coast, Australia when they came to NYC to play some industry showcases. They were just a band of high school kids with a lot of Aussie A&R buzz and some catchy songs and great live energy. This band was Operator Please, and they have since blown up in Australia and the UK and are about to take the USA by storm. They are about to embark on a whirlwind tour with the Kaiser Chiefs and after that they head to Europe and then to the US in the fall, where they have already started building an impressive fan base. They have received multiple shout outs from Perez Hilton on his blog (he has announced that they are his favorite band) and their Myspace and YouTube presence is viral to say the least. They are almost done recording their debut album and I am sure it will be just as infectious as their amazing EP’s.

Yet Another Bizarre Kanye West Video

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Zach Galifianakis

Surely someone has emailed you this awesome (yet truly strange) alternate Kanye West video for “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” starring the hilarious Zach Galifianakis and Will Oldham. This internet craze features Galifianakis and Oldham as farmers lipsynching Kanye’s lyrics. Sound too bizarre to be true? See it for yourself!

Dance to Late of the Pier

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Before you dismiss young English lads Late of the Pier as just another new rave band, have a listen to their refreshing and innovative EP, which is available free for download. This party band is influenced just as much by avant garde cinema and art than as it is other musicians. Download the EP today and get out your glow sticks for a good time.

Jamie T- The Male Lily Allen

Friday, July 13th, 2007

As Lily Allen mania hits the USA, I am left asking one question: when is Jamie T going to get his turn? Like Allen, Jamie is a Brit singer songwriter who creates reggae-infused pop and curses like a sailor. England loves him, so why can’t we? Don’t get me wrong, he did get a song on Entourage and gets some coverage in the indie music press but when will he get a sold out tour and a Saturday Night Live Appearance? Jamie, I am waiting!!

New Justin Timberlake Remix by Justice!!

Friday, July 13th, 2007

The new Justice remix of the JT song “Love Stoned” is the hottest thing since, well, the DFA remix of the JT song “My Love.” Timberlake’s camp is obviously trying to give him a bit of a hipster edge (his album photos were done by Terry Richardson!) and it works for me. This MP3 has been on constant iPod rotation since I got it.
Download it today on iTunes.

Jason Schwartzman Resurrects His Music Career

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Remember the good old days when Jason Schwartzman wasn’t just an actor? When he was also the drummer for California indie pop band Phantom Planet? After the release of their third album, Schwartzman resigned in order to pursue his acting career full time. As time went by, Phantom Planet faded into the distance and Schwartzman’s acting career took off. His musical past became ancient history. Fast forward to 2007 and the debut of Schwartzman’s new solo project, Coconut Records which isn’t much of a departure from his old Phantom Planet days. Each song is light and sunny and some are even California themed (the first single is called “West Coast”). The sound is very sweet and simple with nice little melodies. I, personally am glad that Jason is back making music again and was able to provide us with the perfect summer soundtrack.
