VHS or Beta- Bring on The Comets

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

The highly anticipated new album from VHS or Beta will finally be hitting the shelves this month. “Bring On The Comets” is crammed full of songs that are sure to ignite the dancefloor. My definite favorite is “Can’t Believe a Single Word” which so undeniably catchy that I have not been able to get it out of my head for days. If you aren’t familiar with the new wave dance rock sounds of VHS or Beta, go to their Myspace NOW.

Sebastien Tellier in “Pink Cowboy Boots”

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

“Pink Cowboy Boots” is a lovely French student film in which a shy girl who works at a radio station pursues her crush, played by Robin Coudert, keyboardist for AIR and Phoenix. At one point, eccentric indie sensation Sebastien Tellier makes an appearance to give love advice. Although the film is entirely in French, it is very easy to understand if you don’t speak the language. It is definitely work a look if you are a fan of any of the above-mentioned artists.

The Virgins

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

The newest New York City fashion band are The Virgins, who will soon be putting out a record on Atlantic. Their reggae-infused angular pop sounds like something the Strokes would come up with after a trip to Jamaica. I recently saw them play in Brooklyn and was pleasantly surprised by their live show. Check out a video from one of their rehearsals here:

Daft Punk’s ELECTROMA

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Wow. I went to see the Daft Punk movie Electroma last weekend and it was amazing. The plot is as follows: two robots (in Daft Punk outfits but not played by the duo) drive across the desert in a quest to become human. There is no dialog and the score is bizarre…I did enjoy it, however and the audience (comprised of mostly hipsters) clapped at the end. The film will be released by VICE on DVD sometime next year. Check out this trailer here:

The Go! Team Is Back! Back To Attack

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

I’ve missed The Go! Team, and a brief cameo from Ninja on a Simian Mobile Disco track just wasn’t enough to hold me over. Check out this preview of the new album:

Inside The Daft Punk Pyramid

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Daft Punk is well known for their life changing live shows and trademark pyramid stage set up. The public has never been able to see what is within the pyramid…until now. MixMag has just published a guide to the Daft Punk pyramid by the legends themselves. Check it out here!

Great New French Band Alert- The Shoppings

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

The Shoppings are a new French pop duo who only write songs about fashion. “Comme Terry”, which is a tribute to fashion photographer Terry Richardson is probably the most hilarious. Although the songs of The Shoppings do center around one topic, they refuse to be classified as a novelty act. The band will not play any fashion-related events and insist that they are a rock band first, fashion addicts second. Listen to them on myspace!

50 Cent Threatens Retirement

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Whoa! Is he serious? 50 Cent has just announced that if his new solo record does not sell more in its opening week than Kanye West’s new release (both come out September 11th), he will retire. 50 Cent has declared war against West, not only raising the stakes on their record sales, but also challenging him to a debate on BET.
This all sounds like a clever marketing ploy to me and I doubt that 50 Cent would really throw in the towel if he’s defeated. But only time will tell…
