Friday Playlist: A Random Mix by Kelly Phillips Erb

Friday, May 11th, 2007

friday.JPG

This week’s Friday Playlist comes from excellent blogger Kelly Phillips Erb. Kelly writes LawMummy - and from there you can also reach her other online endeavors. I give Kelly the award of Blogger Able to Write about Taxes in a Way That’s Both Informative and Entertaining. (Maybe I should work on that award title…)

Kelly called up this random playlist for us. Enjoy her notes on each song, too!

Beautiful Again - Martina McBride. I grew up in NC and I love country music. Martina is one of those who has managed to remain fresh and modern without selling out. She has an amazing voice. I could listen to her all day.

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol. This is one of my favorite songs right now. I just love the melody, it’s very haunting.

Twelve Days of Christmas - Kermit the Frog. It had to happen - I mean, coming up on random. I still have a lot of Christmas music in my shuffle because my kids have refused to let it go. My two year old is particularly into this one. I can’t even skip by it on the iPod without hearing, “Waaa-it! That’s Kermit the Frog.” Damn frog.

Amazing, Because It Is The Almost. I just heard these guys a couple of weeks ago and I bought almost every song on the album one by one. They’re really cool.

18 and Life - Skid Row. {shudder} My dirty secret is out. I grew up in the 80s. I like pop music and hair bands. I wore chiffon scarves in my hair and rubber bracelets up my arms. Like everyone else of my generation, I practiced lip syncing “Holiday” with a hairbrush in front of the mirror. Sigh. I kind of miss that. Where’s my hairbrush…?

Thanks so much, Kelly!

Friday Playlist: Thom Yorke

Friday, April 13th, 2007

friday.JPG

This might be a little different than what you’ll usually see on this feature, but I wanted to share it today. Thom Yorke, of both Radiohead and solo work fame, shared a playlist of his own with iTunes back in January. Here it goes, starting with Thom’s intro.

dear iTunes listener… this is just some stuff that really floats my boats at the moment. the list is meant to be played from start to finish in the order you see it with a slight crossfade set in the preferences of 4 seconds like an old mix tape. err…maybe. XX love thom

Horse and I - Bat for Lashes
Silikon (Featuring Sasha Perera) - Modeselektor & Sasha Perera
Raid - Madvillain & Medaphoar

I’ve Hardly Been - Stephen Malkmus
Scorn - Surgeon
No Hope Before Destruction - The Dears
Skuff’d - Boxcutter
Closer - Quasimoto & Madvillain
Drum Gets a Glimpse - Liars

What It Look Like - Spank Rock

To dig deeper, click through to see Thom’s notes on all the songs. Very interesting.
